It is reported that the wrestler took his own life whilst in jail
Former WWE wrestler Brian Christopher Lawler – better known by his ring name Grand Master Sexay – has died aged 46.
TMZ reports that the wrestler – and son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler – hanged himself whilst in jail after he was arrested for driving under the influence earlier this month.
Lawler is best remembered by wrestling fans for teaming up with Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi as part of the Attitude-era stable “Too Cool”. Following his release from the WWE in 2001 – after he was discovered smuggling drugs into the USA from Canada – Lawler worked in the independent wrestling scene, although he did have brief returns to the WWE in 2004 and 2011.
He had been imprisoned in the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department in Bolivar, Tennessee prior to his death. His imprisonment came after Lawler refused to stop his car when the police pulled him over for speeding – only for him to be eventually arrested at his home, where he was found to be over the legal alcohol limit.
After his attempt to take his life on Saturday night he reportedly passed away surrounded by his father, Jerry Lawler, his brother, Kevin, and other members of his family on Sunday.
A WWE statement said: “WWE is saddened to learn that Brian Christopher Lawler, who is best known in WWE as Too Cool’s Grandmaster Sexay, has passed away.
“Lawler, who is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, competed during the height of the Attitude Era.
“WWE extends its condolences to Lawler’s family, friends and fans.”
