Anthony Gerrard had a very interesting Transfer Deadline Day.
Oldham Athletic confirmed on Thursday afternoon that they had terminated Gerrard’s contract due to the content of recent social media posts from the defender.
Gerrard, the younger cousin of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, did not appeal the Latics’ decision and thus he and the club parted ways.
“Oldham Athletic can confirm the club have terminated the contract of Anthony Gerrard,” a club statement read.
“His contract was terminated for gross misconduct arising from certain social media posts which brought the club into disrepute.

“In accordance with Anthony Gerrard’s contract and Football League procedure, he had 14 days to appeal the decision, no appeal was lodged.
“As a result his contract with the club has now ended.”
It has been reported that the 32-year-old engaged in a Twitter row with several supporters and after calling one a “weirdo”, he is alleged to have told another to “throw sh*** at yourself”.
Gerrard has since signed a deal with Carlisle United until next January and that move was confirmed even prior to Oldham’s announcement that they had sacked the centre-half.

The deal with Carlisle remains subject to the requisite paperwork going through and he will surely be better behaved on social media going forward.
