Man City to change their club badge again

Change of heart...

JOE

“What are the three stars for?”

‘Purely decorational’ was the answer when Manchester City decided to ditch their classic red rose club badge back in 1997. It was replaced with the current angry bird, decorative stars and ‘Superbia in Proelia’ (Pride in battle) Latin motto.

But now the Mail report that the club will investigate whether their fans want to change their current badge or are happy with the current crest. There is a sense that City’s support would prefer a return to the old branding, which has not been ruled out.

A wide-ranging consultation will include a formal questionnaire to be filled out by ‘Cityzen members’ at Saturday’s home game with Bournemouth, as well as a consultation office in City Square, next to the stadium.

Fans will also be able to convey their views via City’s website. The consultation period will last until November 14, after which the club will report on the outcome.

As Chief executive officer Ferran Soriano explains:

‘The badge is the most visual representation of Manchester City and is so central to our heritage,

‘We are looking for our fans to share their views as to what they consider to be the most authentic symbols of the club. The views of our Cityzens are essential to the process; they will have a real say on the future of our badge.’
