Liverpool fans may be underwhelmed by Klopp’s solution to striker crisis…

Jurgen Klopp looks like a man who tries to take the positives out of every situation.

So we can understand why the Liverpool manager is putting a brave face on despite being down to the bare bones of for Saturday’s trip to Tottenham.

The Reds are without Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino, while Danny Ings has been ruled out for the season due to a knee injury.

It means that Klopp has just two strikers left to pick from, with Daniel Sturridge backed up by Divock Origi.

Sturridge has scored twice in three outings this season after missing almost the entirety of the last campaign through injury, while Origi has played just 17 minutes since arriving from Lille.

But Klopp is putting a positive spin on Thursday’s news about Ings, and has backed Origi to make a big impact over the coming weeks.

“We have Origi – do you know him?” he told journalists. “In this moment – for the next game – we have Daniel for the position and we have Origi.

“Two strikers, I don’t need more. When you start if you have more it’s perfect. But you have to think how you can react. When Christian is fit then he is an option, for sure but at this moment he isn’t.”
