We’re a long way from a fake-looking talking cat
The first trailer from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has dropped, and it is super dark.
The show is based on the classic Archie comic book Sabrina The Teenage Witch, which was also the inspiration for the 1990s sitcom of the same name, starring Melissa Joan Hart.
The new show, however, comes from the makers of Riverdale, which reimagined other Archie teen characters in a twisted murder-mystery plot. The comic book was also relaunched as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in 2014, presenting a much darker, horror-influenced version, and that is what the TV show is based on.
Taking over the reigns from Melissa Joan Hart is Kiernan Shipka, who was previously best known for playing Don Draper’s daughter Sally in Mad Men.

The minute-long trailer features a trip through a particularly creepy gothic small town, culminating in a birthday party for the title character – complete with cake, candles, and weird goat-headed monster thing.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina debuts on Netflix on October 26th, just in time for Halloween. It has already been signed up for two seasons. Lucy Davis – aka Dawn from The Office – is playing her aunt Hilda. And yes, Salem is in it as well.
The 1990s Sabrina The Teenage Witch series ran for 163 episodes, from 1996 to 2003. It was followed by an animated series, that ran for 65 episodes.
