One of the hidden ghosts in The Haunting Of Hill House is a nod to another Netflix horror

Do you see it? Just behind the cupboard there! Creepy…

Yep, that one sure is creepy, but that isn’t the one we’re talking about.

The folks at Screen Rant, IGN, Vulture and more besides have been compiling all of the hidden ghosts they’ve spotted through the show (they’re up to 29 so far!), but one in particular represents a bit of a Netflix horror reunion.

In Episode Five – the one where we finally find out the tragic backstory of The Bent Neck Lady – a scene takes place with Carla Gugino is talking to one of her kids, and hanging out in the background is a ghost:

That ghost is played by none other than Bruce Greenwood.

Last year, Netflix released a horror movie based on a story by Stephen King, titled Gerald’s Game.

In the film, Gerald Burlingame (Bruce Greenwood) and his wife Jessie attempt to rekindle the flames of their marriage with a retreat to their remote lake house. But when a dangerous sex game accidentally kills Gerald and leaves Jessie handcuffed to the bed, the latter is forced to overcome panic and hallucinations if she wants to escape.

As time passes and she realises that a rescue seems impossible, Jessie begins to slip into insanity as the voices in her head manifest themselves into visions.

In that movie, the character of Jessie was played by none other than Carla Gugino (the same actress from Hill House), and it was also directed by Mike Flanagan who, yep!, directed all of the episodes of Netflix’s new hit horror show.

If you haven’t seen it yet, Gerald’s Game is also a pretty cracking horror movie (90% on Rotten Tomatoes), and it is clear from that success why Netflix gave Flanagan such a major project like Hill House.

Well worth checking out.
