George Bush Senior, the former US President, has died aged 94
Bush Sr was the 41st US president, holding office between 1989 and 1993 – a turbulent period in global relations which saw the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the end of the Cold War.
A spokesperson for the family confirmed he died at 22:10 local time on Friday night at his home in Houston, Texas.
Bush Sr had continued to make public appearances in recent years, despite his health failing. As well as being treated for Parkinson’s Disease, he was also admitted to hospital for some time earlier this year with a blood infection.
An official statement from his office said: ‘George Herbert Walker Bush, world war two naval aviator, Texas oil pioneer, and 41st president of the United States of America, died on 30 November 2018.
‘He was 94 and is survived by his five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two siblings. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Barbara; his second child Pauline Robinson ‘Robin’ Bush; and his brothers Prescott and William or ‘Bucky’ Bush. Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as is practical’
