United fans hijack vote in bid to make Balotelli Liverpool’s player of the year

Mario Lolotelli...

Mischievous Manchester United supporters are doing their best to make Liverpool’s misfiring and out-of-favour striker Mario Balotelli the club’s Player of the Year.

The official Liverpool website are inviting their own fans to vote for the player they feel most deserves the accolade in a season that could yet end in silverware if they go all the way in the FA Cup.

However, United supporters have got wind of the vote and are trying to hijack the contest to give Balotelli the honour. The criteria for the award, as laid out by the Anfield club, is as follows:

‘This award is for the football player who has captured the fans with his determination, passion and commitment to the team and club. Players who have played more than one minute this season for the first team qualify.’

Although the Italian forward meets the second part of the description, his general form and four goals in all competitions this season hardly resonate with the spirit of the award.

Of course, the delicious irony is that Super Mario would have no qualms in accepting the honour and wouldn’t find it remotely unusual that the Liverpool supporters should love him so.
