The number of homicides in 2018 surpassed the total for last year in early November
A man in his 20s was stabbed to death in an north London alleyway in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police and ambulance services were called at around 1:20am to a report of a stabbing in Albert Place, Haringey, off Tottenham High Road.
The man was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later. Enquiries are underway to establish the identity of the deceased.
No arrests have yet been made but a murder investigation has now been launched.
The Met police’s Detective Chief Inspector Glen Lloyd said: “We’re in the early stages of the investigation and at this stage we are working hard to piece together the chain of events that led to a young man losing his life.
“Only days before Christmas, a life has been senselessly taken and my team will work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice as soon as possible.
“I am appealing to anyone with information, no matter how insignificant they think it may be, to come forward and speak to police. If there is a reluctance to speak to police, you can of course contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”
The incident comes as the number of killings in the capital has risen to its highest level for a decade. The number of homicides in 2018 surpassed the total for last year in early November.
