Manchester City will have to continue their title challenge without Sergio Aguero for a while longer as Manuel Pellegrini confirmed the Argentine is still some way off a return.

Aguero damaged his hamstring when with Argentina recently and was initially ruled out for four weeks.

With the 27-year-old absent for the Manchester derby over the weekend, his manager provided an update on his injury.

“He is improving, but he has some time more to be 100 percent recovered.”

Aguero is joined on the sidelines by a several other City players, meaning Pellegrini is slightly lighter on numbers ahead of the club’s Capital One Cup clash with Crystal Palace.

“We are trying to have a starting line-up that is the best we can have at this moment,” Pellegrini added.

“It’s not easy because we have so many players injured. Maybe a few players are playing a lot of games.

“For our team it’s important to try to continue in the Capital One Cup and try to do it tomorrow at home.”
