The trio claim they were starved of alcohol for a week’s shoot in Mongolia
Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond were tested to the limit in an unusual way while filming the latest series of The Grand Tour – as they “slept rough” and without any alcohol.
The Amazon show has very much followed on from their Top Gear days by mixing ludicrous scenarios with fast cars, and series 3 pitted them up against a series of tests in Mongolia.
“Mongolia was nuts, although what made Mongolia nuts is that the producers packed everything we would need for seven days, and they didn’t pack a single, tiny bit of alcohol,” Clarkson told Daily Mirror.

James May pondered if the somewhat difficult circumstances were far from accidental as the presenters were put through the wringer.
“We had to sleep rough, we didn’t have much food, and then there was no drink, which was a deliberate ploy, I think – although nobody’s admitting to it,” he noted.
The new series sees the trio test the usual array of stonking fast cars with the latest trailer showing them tearing up Stansted Airport. The first episode is available tomorrow, Friday 29 March.
Clarkson has been sure to keep The Grand Tour in the news while it’s been off-air, causing a stir over comments alleged by Will Young to be homophobic. In response, the 58-year-old apologised to the singer, stating: “I know I’m not homophobic as I very much enjoy watching lesbians on the internet.”
