The report from special counsel Robert Mueller, published in full
Special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the investigation into collusion between Donald Trump and Russia during America’s presidential election in 2016 has been published.
The 448-page report found extensive interference by the Russian government and an affiliated company in the election but did not reach conclusion as to whether there was collusion with the Trump campaign, choosing not to provide judgment of Trump out of “fairness concerns.”
In May 2017, Mueller was appointed by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein as special counsel for the Department of Justice, and was tasked with investigating “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump, and any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation.”
On the lighter side, the report also revealed Trump broke down on hearing of Mueller’s appointment.
Trump slumped into his chair and said “Oh my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my Presidency. I’m fucked,” the report states, citing testimony from then attorney general Jeff Sessions and notes from his chief of staff, Jody Hunt.
The report reads: “Sessions stepped out of the Oval Office to take a call from Rosenstein, who told him about the special counsel appointment, and Sessions then returned to inform the president of the news.
“According to notes written by Hunt, when Sessions told the president that a special counsel had been appointed, the president slumped back in his chair and said, ‘
It says Trump “became angry and lambasted the Attorney General for his decision to recuse from the investigation, stating, ‘How could you let this happen, Jeff?'”
