Costello made the prediction during the most recent episode of TKO
Boxing commentator Mike Costello has expressed his belief that two of the world’s top three heavyweight boxers will fight each other over the course of the next year.
Costello was appearing on the latest episode of TKO, during which he, Chris Lloyd and Carl Frampton discussed – among other things – the earnings of fighters in modern boxing.
Discussing the prospect of the likes of Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua facing each other in the near future – a topic that has been widely talked about in recent months due to deals signed by Wilder and Fury.
Costello praised the three fighters in question for doing things their own way, and for ensuring that they secure such mammoth paychecks, something not always certain for even the best fighters in the sport.
“There are plenty of people making money in the game, and it isn’t always the fellas taking it on the chin,” he said.
“It may well be that Wilder, Fury and Joshua are going on their own different pathways at the moment, but they’re all earning crazy amounts of money.
“I know, deep down, the fans ultimately want those to meet. I think they will. At least two of those three will meet at some stage in the next year. But in the meantime they’re earning phenomenal amounts of money.”
Fury signed a reported £80 million deal with ESPN earlier this year to air his next five fights. Wilder, meanwhile, has turned down big money offers from both ESPN and DAZN in recent months, with the latter deal reported to be worth $100 million.
