Pouring one out for Pochettino
Since the news of Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking broke on Tuesday night, it’s been the only thing on my mind. And for the most box office manager in the history of the game, Jose fucking Mourinho, to replace him? Wow. This is why we love the Barclays. The pure, unadulterated chaos of it all. Hook it to my veins.
My feelings around the issue – as a neutral with an admiration for Pochettino’s work – have been conflicted, however. What lies ahead is set to be one hell of a rollercoaster but let’s take a moment to appreciate what Poch did for Tottenham as a club. The moments he gave them. The Champions League run. He transformed the perception of the club and, had financial circumstances been different, might have stayed for several years more.
