The government has broken its promise to house the homeless

JOE

Helping the homeless was supposed to be a priority

When the British government announced its measures to try and contain the spread of coronavirus, it was also announced that it would look to house the country’s homeless, people who are particularly vulnerable to the virus.

Housing these people would help keep them, and the wider public, safe, said the government. But weeks later, little if anything has changed on the streets of our country.

The homeless who were already on the streets remain there, and rather than see numbers reduced, they have been joined by many hospitality workers whose employment and housing security was decimated by the pandemic and its after effects.

While the government turns a blind eye, charity Under One Sky is doing all it can to feed and help the people who cannot stay at home.
