Last Thursday, hundreds of thousands of A Level students across the UK found out their final grades and whether they’d made it into university for the upcoming year.
While it’s never a day that goes completely swimmingly for 100% of students, this year’s was a bigger shitshow than most. Around 40% of students had their grades downgraded after the governing body Ofqual used an algorithm to adjust grades based on a school’s previous performance.
In England alone, over 250,000 grades were adjusted down from the teacher’s prediction, leaving many with missed university places and no easy way to appeal.
