Last month, rumours began circulating on social media that a second Borat movie was in the works after Sacha Baron Cohen was spotted shooting something in Los Angeles.
Now a new report in the Collider has confirmed that not only is Borat 2 in the works, it’s already been filmed and has been screened to some in the industry.
It’s been 14 years since Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan took the world by storm with his trip across America.
It doesn’t feel like that long though as the movie has lived on through its fans loudly proclaiming, “Very nice,” “What type of dog is this?” and “My wife.”
Collider’s Jeff Sneider’s report is based on confirmations from multiple sources and said while full plot details are still scarce, “Borat is no longer the little-known Kazakh TV personality he played in the original 2006 movie. The public knows who he is now, so he has to go ‘undercover’ to interview people.”
Cohen has been spotted out and about in Borat costume, but there’s also been signs of some undercover work over the past few months.
At the end of June, Cohen made headlines for crashing a far-right rally in Washington and convincing the crowd to join him singing a racist song.
There was also clip of Borat speeding down a street in Los Angeles.
There’s still a lot of unknowns in the project with no word whether original Borat director Larry Charles (Curb Your Enthusiasm) is onboard with the film.
The original film grossed over $260 million worldwide and won Cohen a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. It also received an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 79th Academy Awards.
