NFL player Ray-Ray Armstrong has found himself in a spot of bother after allegedly taunting a police dog named Bandit.
In a case that can be filed in ‘O’ [for ‘Only in America], Armstrong is said to be under investigation for goading the K-9 as he made his way onto the pitch before the Oakland Raiders’ match against the Pittsburgh Steelers, at Heinz Field in Pennsylvania.
The Raiders linebacker is said to have raised his jersey and banged his chest in the direction of the pooch while shouting ‘Hey dog, hey dog’.
Taunting a police dog is a felony three in Pennsylvania and carries a maximum punishment of $15,000 and seven years in jail.
Bandit’s handler, Maria Watts, told WTAE Pittsburgh that the animal was ‘very agitated’ by Armstrong’s actions.
“He wanted me to let him go,” said Watts. “I imagine with his training and experience he would have gone to his target who was taunting him. I don’t want to speculate on what he would have done.
“No-one in the department, from the sheriff down, is happy about this.”
