Very Nice!
$100,000 has been raised for an unemployed babysitter who appears in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
Jeanise Jones was one of the many unsuspecting members of the public duped into appearing in the Sacha Baron Cohen sequel. Jones was hired to babysit Borat’s teenage daughter Tutar, played by actress Maria Bakalova.
Jones is currently unemployed after she was let go from the Oklahoma City insurance company she worked at due to pandemic-related downsizing. After it was revealed that she was paid on $3,600 by producers, over $100,000 has been raised for her via a crowdfunding campaign.
While many of the people duped by Borat come across badly in the film – which is mostly the point of the movie, to be honest – Jones has been praised for her appearance, as she speaks up for Tutar against Borat’s shockingly sexist behaviour.
The GoFundMe was set up by Jeanise Jones’s Pastor, Derrick Scobey.
“She was recruited from our church the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Oklahoma City after Producers spoke to me about needing a ‘Black Grandmother’ for a small role in a ‘documentary,’ writes Scobey on the campaign page.
“Jeanise emerged as that person and she was completely unaware that this was a comedy, and all of this was made up. We have been praying for the young lady in the movie because we all genuinely thought she was in trouble.”
“The joke is on us/Jeanise and that’s no problem. Many of you have reached from around the world to say thank you, so I thought it would be great to give people a vehicle to say thank you in a tangible way, She wasn’t paid much money at all for her role in this movie.”
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, to give the film its full title, has been a massive success for Amazon Prime Video, with the streaming giant saying that it has been watched by tens of millions of people since its launch last Friday.
