He doesn’t officially take over as president until January 20th, 2021
Joe Biden’s approval rating is currently higher than incumbent President Donald Trump’s ever was, according to a new poll.
In the most recent CNN Gallup poll, Biden received a 55% approval rating – a figure higher than Trump ever managed in his four years in the White House.
Biden’s approval rating is up by six percent since the last poll was conducted before the election. Trump’s current approval rating is at 42 percent, down by three percent on the previous poll.
Since Joe Biden was declared winner of the US presidential election on November 7th, Trump and his team have launched a series of legal challenges against states it accused of engaging in ‘fraudulent’ electoral practices. The nature of these claims related to the use of postal ballots, however, no evidence of illegal activity has been uncovered.
Joe Biden’s approval rate among Republicans has doubled since before the election. (Photo: Getty)That hasn’t stopped Trump and his campaign team from continuing to persist with the claims. In a recent 45-minute speech, Trump said it was a “siege” against the US electoral system.
Trump’s behaviour after Biden was projected winner could explain his lowly approval rating, though you have to back to the very start of his presidency to find his highest approval rating.
Shortly after his inauguration in January 2016, Trump achieved a 50% approval rating in polls.
Biden’s approval amongst registered Republicans has doubled, going from six percent before the election to a current standing of 12 percent.
Despite Biden’s projected victory a month ago, Donald Trump has not yet conceded defeat in the election. At a White House Christmas party last week, Trump suggested he would run for the presidency again in 2024.
According to Politico and the various US media outlets to have reported on Trump’s Christmas party, he said:
“It’s been an amazing four years. We are trying to do another four years. Otherwise, I’ll see you in four years.”
