We have seen a number of talented centre-backs enjoy breakout Premier League seasons for some of the competition’s top clubs.
While new signings like Virgil van Dijk and Ramiro Funes Mori have impressed for Southampton and Everton respectively, we asked JOE readers to choose between four other talented centre-backs.
Gabriel, Nicolas Otamendi, Mamadou Sakho and Chris Smalling have all been crucial to their teams’ fortunes this season, though Sakho has since been ruled out for a number of months through injury, and you have been having your say with regards to who has been the most impressive.

Smalling was a popular choice, with the England man given plenty of credit for Manchester United’s defensive solidity.
But not everyone was convinced.
Sakho was a popular choice, and will surely be missed by Liverpool during his time on the sidelines.
And the Frenchman was the subject of one of the more concise answers.
Otamendi has impressed in his short time so far.
Plenty of you suggested other players we hadn’t mentioned.
