Still the only Brit to win a UFC title, Bisping doesn’t have time for insurrectionists

UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping believes rioters who breached the US Capitol should be tried for treason. Lancashire born and bred, Bisping now lives in Orange County, California.

Two weeks ago, a violent mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the historic US Capitol in Washington DC as Congress was in session certifying Joe Biden’s election victory.

Police were attacked, the building was damaged and property was stolen. Five people – including one police officer – died.

Media outlets such as CNN referred to the violence as an ‘attempted coup’ – sentiments echoed by numerous high profile figures across the pond.

Actor and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger said Trump was guilty of inciting violence. The violence occurred after Trump held a ‘Stop The Steal’ rally in Washington DC, with Schwarzenegger claiming “he [Trump] sought a coup by misleading people with lies.”

Speaking to JOE ahead of UFC 257 this Saturday, Bisping says those guilty of rioting at the US Capitol should be tried for treason.

The 41-year-old has previously been critical of Trump supporters on social media.

He said: “If I open my mouth over here and say anything like that, I get told ‘Pack your bags, move back to Britain’ and all this kind of stuff.

“1776 as well… I try telling them not a single person in England cares. Do you guys wake up every day thinking, ‘Oh, 1776!’

“It was a long f***ing time ago and no one gives a s**t.”

When asked how he’d deal with those who stormed the Capitol, Bisping was unequivocal.

“There’s a word for that: it’s called treason. Any person who went and did that is guilty of treason and should be charged accordingly.”

Recalling Trump’s tenure, Bisping said: “It’s been a mental four years here in America, let’s be honest. We’ll see if Joe Biden can do any better. I think it’s hard to do any worse.”
