One of Arnie’s best movies is getting a re-do
Released in 1994, True Lies was a big deal at the time, being the first ever film to cost over $100 million in production alone. In terms of director James Cameron’s C.V., it gets overshadowed by the likes of Titanic, Avatar, Aliens, and Terminator 2, but the movie has its die-hard fans, and it features (arguably) the best performance by Arnold Schwarzenegger in his entire career.
Over the years, a potential sequel has been constantly discussed, but it finally looks like Cameron is getting involved in the project once again, serving as an executive producer on the TV reboot.
The pilot for the show is set to be directed by McG (Terminator: Salvation, We Are Marshall), with the script provided by Matt Nix (Burn Notice).
According to Deadline, the series will kick off with events pretty similar to those of the movie: “Shocked to discover that her bland and unremarkable computer consultant husband is a skilled international spy, an unfulfilled suburban housewife is propelled into a life of danger and adventure when she’s recruited to work alongside him to save the world as they try to revitalise their passionless marriage.”
So it appears the rest of the season will revolve around the husband and wife heading off on missions together, trying to save the world, and (dun dun dun!) their marriage.
No word on casting, but if the plot is a basic re-do, it seems unlikely we should expect original stars Arnie, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, or Eliza Dushku to be involved.
The show is set to air on CBS in the States, with no word on an air date just yet.
Meanwhile, Cameron – who hasn’t directed a movie since 2009 – will be making a big-screen comeback when Avatar 2 arrives in December 2022.
