Here’s how much power was in the kick that knocked Ronda Rousey out

Ouch

In case you’ve been living under a rock or somehow haven’t heard, Ronda Rousey’s unbeaten run is over.

The former bantamweight champion’s reign came to an emphatic end when she was knocked out by Holly Holm, and plenty of people have been having their say on the biggest upset in UFC history.

But just how powerful was the kick that knocked Rousey out? Well, Rhett Allain of Wired reckons he has made a pretty good estimation of how much force Holm used to take down the champ, and as an associate professor of physics at Southeastern Louisiana University, we trust he knows what he’s talking about.

According to Allain, the part of foot and leg that Holm struck with probably weighs around 2.5kg and was travelling at a speed of 14mph – which is good for an average force of impact of 48.7lbs – which is around the same weight as a medium-sized dog.
