The Bridgerton star is now the favourite to be the next 007

Actor Regé-Jean Page has said that he is “flattered” to be a contender for the next James Bond film, following the announcement that he will not be returning for the season two of Bridgerton.

The 31-year-old star gained an enormous fan base after starring as the Duke of Hastings in the Netflix period drama series Bridgerton. He starred alongside Phoebe Dynevor, who played the role of Daphne.

In true Bridgerton style, Lady Whistledown announced Page’s departure from Bridgerton in a personalised letter on Twitter.

Page responded to the Tweet, saying: “Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family – on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and will just keep growing.”

Despite leaving much of the world devastated with the news that he will not feature in the next series of Bridgerton, Page has been made a favourite to star as the next James Bond.

Fans are delighted at the news that Page could become the new 007, after watching the actors’s ability to get tangled up in a fiery romance, whilst preparing for violent duels. The star’s performance in the hit-series has certainly made an impression.

Yesterday, the betting company Coral made him the favourite to be the next 007, putting the actor on odds of 5/2.

Other favourites for the role, including Tom Hardy and James Norton, are now second with odds of 3/1, according to the Mirror.

Speaking to the Mirror, Page said: “Ah, the B word. I think that if you are British and you do anything of note, that other people take notice of, then people will start talking about that.

“I think that’s fairly normal and I’m flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed.”

“Nothing more – or less – than that,” he added.

Page said that the idea of having plans at this point in time is “mildly hilarious” and therefore he has stopped making them, the Mirror reported.

Speaking of his passion for acting, Page told the Mirror: “Sometimes people ask me what my hobbies are, and the answer is that acting is my hobby. It always had been – it’s just that I’ve ended up making my living off it.”

Daniel Craig confirmed last year that the next James Bond film, No Time To Die, will unfortunately be his last. The release of the next Bond film was delayed due to coronavirus, however it is hoped that it will appear in cinemas across the UK in autumn this year.
