The family of Jordan Banks have paid tribute to the nine-year-old after he was tragically killed by a lightning strike on Tuesday evening.

Jordan had been on playing fields in Blackpool when the thunderstorm hit at around 5pm. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died shortly afterwards.

A statement from his family was released via Lancashire Police on Wednesday afternoon.

“Yesterday our worlds stopped,” the statement reads. “We lost the brightest star our beautiful boy Jordan. His laugh, that infectious smile, golden curls, he was our everything. Wise beyond his years, caring, considerate, generous and so loving.

“Our love is endless. Goodnight beautiful boy. We thank you all for your kind words and support but as a family ask that you respect our wishes and privacy.”

Flowers and football shirts  with messages of condolence have been left at the playing field where Jordan was struck.

A keen footballer and supporter of Liverpool, many have posted nine football emoji on social media in tribute to him.

Liverpool’s James Milner was among those to pay tribute on social media.

Earlier this year Milner had congratulated Jordan for completing a charity run in memory of his late uncle.

“A special boy taken far too soon,” Milner’s tweet read.
