Nearby residents were evacuated following the incident
A young child has died and four adults have been injured after a suspected gas explosion in Heysham, Lancashire in the early hours of this morning.
An explosion was reported at a row of terraced houses on Mallowdale Avenue in Heysham at approximately 2.40am this morning.
Emergency services, including ten fire engines, arrived at the scene and nearby residents were evacuated following the suspected gas explosion.
A man who was near the scene shared an image of Twitter of the houses following the devastating incident.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “We remain at the scene of a suspected gas explosion on Mallowdale Avenue, Heysham. We were called at 2.40am this morning (Sunday May 16th) to reports that a number of houses on the road had collapsed.
“Our officers attended and found two houses collapsed and serious damage to a third property.
“We can now confirm that sadly a young child has died as a result of the incident.
Lancashire police have said this morning that two adults have been seriously injured as a result of the explosion, whilst two other have also been injured.
We remain at scene of a suspected gas explosion on Mallowdale Ave Heysham which has caused 2 houses to collapse & badly damaged another.
