Double jabbed people no longer to isolate
From the 16th of August, if you have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid, you no longer have to self isolate. However, there is one caveat to this rule; you have to be double jabbed. This does not apply if you are under the age of eighteen, says Health Secretary Sajid Javid.
Those over the age of eighteen will have to have been double jabbed within ten days. Otherwise, they will still have to self isolate for the given time.
This comes after PM Boris Johnson updated the phase four plans yesterday, believing that “every adult will have had a first dose of the vaccine and two thirds will have had a second”.
He is ending mandatory social distancing and masks come July 19th, a move that has received significant criticism from the Mayor of London, the general public, and the scientific community.
The health secretary also said that lifting restrictions could cause Covid infections to rise above 100,000 a day over the summer, reiterating England would be entering “uncharted territory”. Speaking to Sky News, Javid said the following:
“For the foreseeable future I’ll be carrying a mask with me, I think that’s a very responsible thing for anyone to do. As I’ve said, the pandemic is not over.
“If I’m in a crowded or enclosed space I will wear a face mask. In fact, I’d wear one if I was next to someone or near to someone that felt uncomfortable with others not wearing face masks, and that’s what I mean by personal responsibility.”
If it avoids rising cases, people getting ill, another lockdown and helps businesses stay open -> doesn’t it make sense to keep face masks for indoor settings like shops & public transport, until we understand more about vaccine effectiveness in stopping transmission?
