“I’m a sportsman. I went over to him to show some love and respect and he didn’t want to give it back. That’s his problem.”
Tyson Fury has accused Deontay Wilder of not wanting to show respect following his knockout win in Las Vegas during their third WBC heavyweight title fight.
The ‘Gypsy King’ delivered a fatal blow in the 11th round to floor Wilder and retain his title in what was the third and final of the trilogy of fights between the pair.
However Fury has claimed that when he went to go and speak to the defeated Wilder, the American refused to acknowledge his respect when he went to speak to him after the fight.
He said: “I’m not going to make any excuses, Wilder is a top fighter.
“He gave me a real run for my money tonight, and I always said I’m the best in the world and he’s the second best.
“He’s got no love for me, Deontay Wilder, because you know why, because I beat him three times. I’m a sportsman. I went over to him to show some love and respect and he didn’t want to give it back. That’s his problem.”
The 33-year-old then revealed what he had said to Wilder when he approached him in the American’s corner and called him a “sore loser.”
“I just said well done and he said, ‘I don’t want to show any sportsmanship or respect.’ I said, ‘No problem.’
“Very surprised. Sore loser, an idiot.
“To be a top fighting man, you’ve got to show guts and respect, and he couldn’t do it tonight, and that was it.”
Despite Fury’s, win it wasn’t all easy for the Manchester-born boxer. After knocking down Wilder in the third round, the American duly responded by knocking Fury down twice in the following round.
But the ‘Gypsy king’ came back fighting to floor Wilder in the 10th round before the fatal blow in the 11th to secure another famous victory.
