Carl Frampton says Jake Paul will beat ‘relative novice’ Tommy Fury

Frampton spoke to JOE after a fight between Paul and Fury was confirmed last week

Former professional boxer Carl Frampton has backed Jake Paul to beat Tommy Fury after the two announced they would fight in December.

After months of talks, a deal was agreed between the YouTuber-turned-boxer and former Love Island star Fury to take place in Tampa Bay, Florida on December 18.

Both fighters are unbeaten in their own careers, however this will be the first time that the American will fight a boxer after previously taking on two UFC stars, a retired basketball player and another YouTuber in his four professional fights.

And former super-bantamweight and featherweight champion Frampton backed Paul in an exclusive interview with JOE‘s Alex Roberts.

“I think that it’s a huge fight and if I’m being honest, I’d probably favour Jake Paul in the fight,” said the Northern Irishman.

“He carefully picked his opponents obviously and he’s not fought a boxer yet, but the first boxer he’s fighting is a guy who’s a relative novice in the grand scheme of things and who seems to have issues going more than four rounds.

“So I think that I would favour Jake Paul in that fight and then we hear him, as mad as it may sound, he’s beat a real boxer, although it’s Tommy Fury, he starts calling out Gervonta Davis, Canelo [Álvarez] it’s mental.

“But, yeah I’d favour him in the fight against Tommy Fury.”

Whilst Paul took a more comical approach to his announcement, Fury seemed to be more serious and straight to the point saying:

“Time to do what should’ve been done to you a long time ago….You’re getting knocked spark out.  @jakepaul.”
