Witnesses have told how a man in a car tried to save the woman’s life by crashing into the knifeman
A knifeman who allegedly stabbed a woman to death in west London on Monday was later reportedly hit and killed by a car.
Police have launched an “urgent investigation” into the deaths after being called to reports of a stabbing on Chippenham Road, in the Maida Vale area, around 9am.
The woman was found with multiple stab wounds, and the man, who had been hit by a car, was found in the same location under the vehicle, police said, adding that “enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances”.
Reports suggest that the man who was run over had earlier killed the woman. A motorist then ran him over in an attempt to save the woman’s life, eyewitnesses told The Independent.
Police were examining a blue Renault Clio that collided with the wall of St Peter’s Church on Chippenham Road this afternoon and inspecting CCTV footage.
A number of local residents told The Independent that the woman and knifeman lived in the area and knew each other. They were both said to be in their 20s.

Jiyad Raad told The Independent that he heard the woman screaming for help and saw the man stabbing her: “I see him three to four times stab her with the knife in the neck”.
Radd said he tried to intervene before the knifeman stabbed the woman “two to three times” more. The knifeman was then hit by the car, he said, adding: “The driver tried to save the girl.”
Another witness told the newspaper that the knifeman was wearing a hood and mask and stabbed the woman “about 10 times” and a third detailed how the knifeman did not die instantly after being hit by the car, “he was asking for help under the car”.

Police, who responded to the incident along with the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, said no arrests had been made, but officers believe the incident is “contained” and poses no wider threat to the local community.
Detective chief inspector Neil Smithson said officers are still trying to work out “exactly what has happened” during the “incredibly serious incident”.

“As soon as we have more information we will keep the public updated, but for now we must avoid speculation and allow investigators to do their work. What I can say at this time is that the incident is contained,” he said.
Smithson said police had spoken to a number of people already, “but anyone else who witnessed the incident, or who has information that could help us, is urged to make contact immediately”.
