Steven Gerrard at Chelsea is one of the great what-ifs of the Premier League era.

The former Liverpool captain almost joined the London side twice, but decided eventually that his heart remained on Merseyside.

It was then especially cruel luck that his best chance of winning a Premier League would vanish in an infamous slip against a Mourinho side in 2013.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has previously spoken about how Gerrard is one of the few players he has major regrets about not working with at Chelsea or Inter Milan, and Gerrard has now revealed the close bond between the two men.

during the Barclays Premier League match between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on May 10, 2015 in London, England.

Sitting down together for a joint interview on BT Sport this week, Gerrard reveals that he once received a letter from Mourinho after a charity game at Anfield and it was so moving that he decided to frame it and hang it on his wall.

The former England captain explains that the letter was: “A  very touching message and the letter is now in a frame, pride of place in the house. That’s what it means to me.

“It was a nice touch which shows what he gives to players off the pitch and even players that have been a rival…he’s still humble and a gentleman to write me a letter.”
