Jada Pinkett-Smith says she ‘never wanted to marry Will Smith’ in awkward resurfaced clip

The internet is not ready to let go of slap-gate

Following the infamous Oscars slap heard around the world, a video of Jada Pinkett-Smith has resurfaced online that seems to suggest that she never really wanted to marry Will Smith after all.

The world was rocked – pardon the pun – when Smith, 53, smacked comedian and Oscars presenter Chris Rock, 57, after he compared Pinkett-Smith to “G.I Jane” during a pre-award joke.

However in a recently resurfaced clip, Pinkett-Smith – who shares three children with the King Richard star – detailed crying “all the way” down the aisle during a Red Table Talk back in 2018.

“I really didn’t want to get married… I didn’t want a wedding either,” she said. “I was under so much pressure. Being a young actress, being young and pregnant. I didn’t know what to do, but I knew I never wanted to be married.

“We only got married because Gammy (Jada’s mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris) was crying,” her husband added.

Banfield-Norris also said the day “was horrible” and “a mess.”

“Jada was sick, she was very unpleasant. She didn’t cooperate with anything,” she added.

“I was so upset that I had to have a wedding. I was so p****ed,” Pinkett-Smith then admitted. “I went crying down the freaking aisle. I cried the whole way.”

She continued: “I didn’t want to get married and now Gammy’s gone running to Will, crying about how I don’t want to have a wedding.

“Now I’m being forced to have a wedding, when really I just wanted it to be the two of us [her and Will] on a mountain, because this is serious business.”

The internet is still talking about the clip – and just about anything with the word “Smith” attached to it, for that matter.

Dr Kemi Olunloyo wrote on Twitter: “I was at that wedding in Baltimore and it wasn’t horrible. Adrienne wanted them to marry bcos Jaden was in the oven but it was not by force. She was still in love with Tupac who got killed the previous year.”

Author Ciku Muiruri also pointed out: “It wasn’t about Will. She has a problem with the construct of marriage, specifically, the accepted convention of what being a wife is & the institution society has put forth. If anything, the fact that she said I do despite her beliefs means she really loves the man. Let her be.”
