Conor McGregor’s coach reveals he got plenty of stick from The Notorious’ fans ahead of Jose Aldo fight

All’s well that ends well, supposedly, but Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh admits things could have been very different had The Notorious not defeated Jose Aldo at UFC 194.

Speaking on The MMA Hour, Kavanagh said that he received plenty of stick from McGregor fans ahead of the Aldo fight after the Irishman was seen prancing around with movement coach Ido Portal.

“I spent all my life savings on this trip and you have him doing cucaracha or something,” one fan reportedly told Kavanagh.

The coach gave the same response to all his critics, reassuring them that McGregor was ready: “You must be watching UFC Embedded. That’s a 10-second look at our day.

“We do a lot of hard training. There’s a lot of tough rounds that have to be done in preparation for a fight like this.”

After McGregor knocked out Aldo in just 13 seconds in Las Vegas, Kavanagh’s methods have been praised – but he knows he could have been facing a difficult predicament had the training not paid off so emphatically.

“Apparently I’m a genius now that this was my idea,” Kavanagh joked.

“But if he’d have lost, I’d have gotten poor Ronda Rousey’s coach’s treatment. I would have been the worst human being on the planet. That’s MMA fans. They’re a fickle bunch.”
