The unfortunate tweet was sent out just moments after the results of the final MP ballot were announced
Liz Truss said she is “ready to hit the ground” after she made it into the final round of the Conservative leadership race.
The Foreign Secretary will now face off against former Chancellor Rishi Sunak after bagging 113 nominations against Penny Mordaunt’s 105.
Tory Party members will now decide who will become Britain’s next Prime Minister.
But eagle-eyed social media users were quick to spot that gaffe-prone Truss had already made an unfortunate blunder by tweeting out that she was “ready to hit the ground” rather than “hit the ground running” in a celebratory tweet.
The mistake got plenty of people talking, with Femi Oluwole saying she has “managed to embarrass herself within SECONDS of making it to the final two!”
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron responded to the post with just ‘Lib Dem gain!’, while we couldn’t help sticking in one too!
