Fitness coach predicted Liverpool’s injury crisis as two more players injure their hamstrings

He may have an egg for a profile picture but he has an annoying habit of being right.

Raymond VerheijenĀ is infamous for his outspoken opinions on Twitter. The Dutch fitness coach has previously criticised both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, and now he has Jurgen Klopp in his sights.

Verheijen’s main concern is over-training and the accumulation of fatigue, whichĀ he believes is the cause of far too many avoidable injuries. This is particularly pertinentĀ to the Premier League.

He believes the sheer number of games in this countryĀ leaves little time to recover and recuperate – and intensive training in between is asking for trouble.

Just before Christmas the physiological soothsayer tweeted the following prediction…

Now it has to be said that Liverpool were already experiencing something of a crowded injury room in the weeks previous to theĀ prediction, but they certainly haven’t abated.

In the first leg of the side’s Capital One Cup semi-final with Stoke City, a further two players both suffered hamstring injuries – which are related to fatigue and not resting/stretching correctly.

With an increasing number ofĀ players out of action, many are beginning to heedĀ Verheijen’s warnings…
