There’s nothing better than an act of good sportsmanship.
While we all love seeing a fantastic shot or a ridiculous save, it’s the showing of respect between two competitors that reminds us why we love sport so much, and American tennis player Jack Sock has given us an early shout for sportsmanship of the year.
During his Hopman Cup match against Australian Lleyton Hewitt on Tuesday night, Sock failed to return a serve which the umpire called out – but Sock was confident the shot was in.
Rather than say nothing, the American shouted “That was in, if you want to challenge it,” to a bewildered Hewitt. After a few moments of uncertainty, Hewitt challenged the call as the crowd laughed, and unsurprisingly the shot was marked in as Hewitt won the point.
More of this in 2016, please.
