We already knew that Game of Thrones season six would be hitting our screens in April, and now we can pencil the exact date into our diaries.
Ever since the credits rolled over the snow of Castle Black, Game of Thrones fans have been counting the days until the HBO smash-hit is back on our screens but the official countdown is now on.
After the tweet below was sent out on Thursday, we now know that it will make its return on April 24.

And there’s more good news for GoT fans…
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo has confirmed that the network are in conversations with show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss about committing to a seventh and eight series.
Given the show’s enormous popularity and success – it currently holds the record for the most Emmy wins for a single show in one year – we’re hardly surprised that more seasons are being lined up.
Winter is almost here.
