Jon Stewart praised the UK media’s coverage of the general election and poked fun at various aspects of the race for Number 10…
The witty US anchor was speaking to Jon Snow on Channel 4 News, and claimed that the British public were working their way through the Miliband family.
“I feel like the British public will go through as many Milibands as they can until they get to one they like,” said Stewart, acknowledging the rivalry between David and Ed.
He was less impressed with the beige campaigning:Â “Both Cameron and Miliband have been smart to not portray themselves as too Churchillian or too charismatic. I think it’s really smart to lower the public’s expectations.”
When asked about the possible outcome, the popular outgoing Daily Show host suggested that the Scottish National Party could act as kingmakers in the case of a hung parliament.
“I really think it’s going to come down to the SNP. I think they’re going to be the deciding vote – and England is going to secede from itself,” he joked.
Stewart was gushing about the political process in this country – but found it ironic that we still ended up making the same mistakes as his native US.
“[Your coverage] is concise, clear-minded, and has no partisan rumblings – you have the institutions in place that we wish we had,” said Stewart, before concluding, “…and yet you guys make the same stupid decisions we do!”
