Jamie Vardy has been rewarded for his record-breaking season with a new long-term contract at Leicester City.
The England international, who broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for goals in consecutive Premier League games, has committed his future to the Foxes until 2019, The Guardian reports.
Vardy’s new deal reportedly includes a ‘significant’ increase on his £40,000-a-week wages – just reward for helping the team to the top of the Premier League.
The 29-year-old, who was playing non-league football less than five years ago, is the Premier League’s top goalscorer after finding the net 16 times in 23 games.
He had reportedly been the subject of interest from top-flight rivals Chelsea and Liverpool, while Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri was also forced to issue Real Madrid with a hands-off warning.
After securing his long-term future, Vardy’s focus will now be on helping the league leaders sustain their remarkable 2015/16Â season and locking down his place in Roy Hodgson’s squad for Euro 2016.
