MMA legend Kevin Randleman has passed away at the age of 44.

The fifth UFC heavyweight champion suffered heart failure after going to hospital with pneumonia.

Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter reported the news on Twitter on Thursday night.

Randleman competed in the UFC for three years and claimed the vacant heavyweight title by beating Pete Williams by unanimous decision in 1999.

‘The Monster’ retired with a record of 17-16 after spells in PRIDE and Strikeforce.

Randleman epitomised the early success of wrestlers in mixed martial arts, with this slam on fellow heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko being one of the most memorable moments in a colourful career.

He is survived by a wife and three children.
