Ever since Jurgen Klopp took over at Liverpool, the club has been linked with his former charges at Borussia Dortmund.
But the Reds are now thought to be keen on one of the stars of Klopp’s other former club, Mainz 05.
Goalkeeper Loris Karius is reportedly on the club’s radar as concerns remain over current first-choice Simon Mignolet.
And Bleacher Report claim the 22-year-old could become a more realistic target than another prospective number one, Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
“They’ve been looking at [Ter Stegen] for a long time but it just hasn’t worked out so far, so they are now starting to look at alternative options,” Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones explained.
Karius, who spent part of his youth career in England with Manchester City, did not cross paths with Klopp at Mainz.
He has represented Germany at every level from Under-17 to Under-21, but is yet to make his full debut for the national side.
