The ugly side of football reared its head again as West Brom defender Chris Brunt appeared to be pelted with coins…by his own fans.
The Baggies defender went over to fans after his side’s 3-1 defeat to Championship side Reading in the FA Cup.
Brunt went over to applaud the away fans and was going to give his shirt to a young fan who had made the trip to see Albion play.

But the 31-year-old Northern Ireland defender was hit by a missile as he came closer to Baggies fans, who appeared angry at the loss to Reading.
Brunt reacted angrily himself and picked up the object and remonstrated with stewards and baying fans.
He had to be led away by ground staff and appeared to have a mark under his left eye.

One @WBAFCofficial fan has let the whole club down! Surely Chris Brunt applauding the traveling fans after an away loss shows he cares?

Speaking to BBC West Midlands Sport afterwards, he said: “There was some people at the front pretty angry – understandably because we’ve not played well and we’ve not got the result we wanted.
“But there’s absolutely no excuse for that and there’s no place for it in football.
“I’ve been here a long time and we get our fair share of stick, but to be hit with coins by your own fans is absolutely disgusting.
“If the guy who’s threw it, he knows where I am all week, if he wants to come and have a word about it, it’s not a problem.
“I’ve been here a long time and I’ve loved my time at the club but I think this is the first time I’ve been ashamed of our supporters. A small minority has ruined it for everyone.”
This is his full reaction to the incident…
