Awful news.

At least nine people have been killed and dozens more are injured after a stampede at a concert.

The stampede at the concert led to fans being crushed to death.

The disaster took place in the capital of the Congo last night, reports the BBC.

Mike Kalambay, a popular Congolese Gospel singer, was performing in the 80,000 capacity Stade des Martyrs stadium.

State television said that nine people were killed and some of those injured are in intensive care.

At the time of writing it is uncertain what caused the stampede however it has been reported that chaos erupted after security staff tried to remove some troublemakers at the gig.

In a statement released after Saturday’s concert, Maajabu Gospel said they were deeply saddened to learn of the deaths.

The governer of Kinshasa, Daniel Bumba, released a statement blaming excessed and crowd movement for the disaster.

An investigation has been ordered into the tragedy by DR Congo’s justice minister.

It’s believed that 30,000 people were in attendance at the concert which featured a huge line up of popular musicians and pastors.

Unfortunately this isn’t the first time the Congo has seen stampedes similar to this.

It’s believed that poor crowd control measures are the reason behind them.

Just last year, 11 people died at the same stadium while attending another music concert.
