The Team GB athletes to watch today

How many medals can Team GB claim?

Yesterday, Team GB picked up two gold medals in the trap shooting and the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay but narrowly missed out on a bronze in the women’s gymnastics team final.

Today there are 18 gold medals on offer with the first of the day already being won by France’s Cassandre Beaugrand in the women’s triathlon but the good news for Great Britain is that Beth Potter picked up a bronze in that race.

At 9.45am the men will get underway in that event with GB’s Alex Yee one of the favourites for that race. However, the women’s race proved treacherous with some of the race favourites crashing out as their bikes slid from underneath them on that second leg so it will be a tough race to call.

Meanwhile, in the Table Tennis, GB’s Liam Pitchford is looking to book a place in the quarter-finals. That is on at the same time as the triathlon.

At 10am, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson will look to emulate what Tom Daley and Noah Williams did as they dive in the 10m Synchro final.

Half an hour later, Team GB’s women’s hockey team will be in action against South Africa which they must win to keep their Olympic dreams alive.

After several days of rowing heats, the first rowing final of the Olympics will begin this morning. Team GB have historically been successful in the rowing and they have a good chance in the men’s quadruple sculls at 11.26 and the women’s quadruple sculls at 11.38.

It has been a disappointing games for Britain’s boxers but Chantelle Reid is in action today and will look to go far in the tournament as will Lewis Richardson who fights at 7.48pm where he will take on the Serbian boxer.

Keiran Reilly qualified in emphatic style for the freestyle BMX final and will drop last as he goes for gold at 12.10pm.

After watching Nathan Hales shoot for gold yesterday, Lucy Hall will no doubt be inspired. The women’s trap final begins at 2.30pm but Hall will have to secure qualification first.

Team GB have struggled in Judo so far with some shock early eliminations, but Jemima Yeats-Brown, who lost her sister to brain cancer just after her Commonwealth Games bronze medal win, will be hoping to get on the podium in the -70kg category.

The men’s all-around gymnastics final gets underway at 4.30pm. Jake Jarman and Joe Fraser have both qualified for Team GB but defending champion Daiki Hashimoto is the favourite.

Five minutes before that, the women’s C1 canoe slalom final begins, and GB’s Mallory Franklin has high hopes of medalling.

After disappointment for the archery teams, both the men and women will look to bounce back as their individual elimination rounds begin at 4.45pm.

Tonight, there will be a number of swimming finals but unfortunately, Matt Richards who helped the relay team to gold last night missed out on a place in the men’s 100m freestyle final.

It could be another fine day for Team GB!
