Nate Diaz was not one bit impressed when he was invited onto CNBC, a predominantly business channel, to discuss money matters ahead of UFC 196.
Reporter Jane Wells cut straight to the chase when she asked Diaz and Conor McGregor, his opponent on Saturday, about their incomings and outgoings.
Upon learning that the show was all about money matters, McGregor declared, “I’ll take over from here. Nate, you can bounce.”
The Notorious is reportedly on a new contract with the UFC which will see him earn a minimum of $14m (£9.8m) per fight.
Asked if he would take home $10m for UFC 196, McGregor replied:
“I’m going to breeze past the $10 million mark.”
The Dubliner also remarked that he was en-route to $100m for career earnings, saying “My contract is a peach.”
When Wells asked for McGregor’s net worth, he quipped:
“There’s people buried in the desert for less than that. You must think I trust you with these kind of things. How much are you worth?”
When the interview turned to how the UFC could surpass the NFL and NBA in terms of appeal, and money, Diaz had enough. And the moment McGregor asked Wells to send him a picture of herself ‘so I can see what you look like’ that was it.
The Californian took off his earpiece and microphone and stormed off.
They might not be asking Diaz back any time soon.
