Rafa Benitez reportedly set for a shock return to the Premier League to fight relegation

Could he keep them up?

Rafa Benitez is a man we would guess does not do idleness very well.

His teams were usually full of energy and precision, so we’d wager staying at home watching the Spanish version of Countdown would not be to his liking.

Benitez has been unemployed since his dismissal from Real Madrid, but rumour has it he could be set for a dramatic return to the Premier League.

Newcastle’s time in the Premier League could be running out quickly unless they arrest their current slide under Steve McClaren, but the former England manager may not see out the season.

He spent plenty of cash in January, but according to The Sun, Benitez has been approached to take over as the club’s interim boss to steer them away from the drop.

With just 11 games to go, the club are one place off the bottom, and they could turn to the former Chelsea interim manager for a quick fix.

David Moyes is also understood to be in the frame for the job if McClaren is sacked, as well as ex-Roma boss Rudi Garcia.
