Restaurant launches sandwich made with giant pickle instead of bread

They’ve dubbed it the Picklewich

A restaurant has launched a giant sandwich which substitutes the bread for a giant pickle instead.

Jimmy John’s announced plans for the Picklewich on October 24 with the sandwich being available nationwide from October 28.

It contains all the typical ingredients you’d expect sandwiched between a giant dill pickle.

There are two variations of the sandwich; The Vito Picklewich which has salami, copocollo, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar to create an Italian sub experience in a pickle.

Then there is the Turkey Picklewich which layers some of the same toppings (lettuce, tomato and onion) with turkey and provolone.

Food critics in the States have been left divided by the American sandwich chain’s new products.

PEOPLE commented that ‘each bite is about half pickle and half meat and cheese – sometimes even leaning more pickle than toppings.’

However, they did say the Picklewich variations were much lighter than a typical sandwich.

Jimmy John’s partnered with Jersey Shore’s Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi who also shared her review with the US news outlet.

She said: “I’ve tried everything pickle ‚ chips, treats, you name it. I was even a Pickle Princess for Halloween one year!

“But I’d never had a pickle sandwich until now, and I’m obsessed. As a pickle expert, trust me, the new Jimmy John’s Picklewich lives up to the hype.”

The chain are also selling pickle-flavoured potato chips to go with their new sandwiches.

To celebrate National Sandwich Day on November 3, customers can get the Picklewich for half-price.

Reward members just need to make a purchase of any 8-inch sandwich to get the deal.
