This is a wild suggestion!
A Manchester United fan has begged former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to replace Erik ten Hag.
The 54-year-old Dutchman was spotted hiding behind the passenger seat as he was driven to the airport following his sacking this morning.
Ten Hag was sacked by the club this morning after defeat to West Ham yesterday left them in 14th in the Premier League table.
A whole host of potential replacements have emerged with former England manager Gareth Southgate one of the favourites to succeed the 54-year-old.
Spaniard, Xavi Hernandez has also been heavily linked with the position in recent days as has Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after reports suggested United may be restricted to recruiting a managerial free agent.
Solskjaer is not the only former manager linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford; fans have also thrown their support behind Jose Mourinho who managed the Red Devils prior to Solskjaer.
However, one fan has thrown a real spanner in the works after suggesting ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should take charge.
The fan was speaking to JOE on the streets of Manchester just hours after the news of Ten Hag’s sacking broke.
The man’s first suggestion was Thomas Tuchel but accepted this wasn’t going to happen after he was recently announced as manager of England.
He said: “Maybe we should go after Klopp.”
The interviewer replied: “Even after him managing Liverpool for so long?” to which the man replied: “I certainly would.”
He laughed as he agreed it wouldn’t go down too well in Liverpool before he added: “I can’t see it happening but he would be the ideal man.”
In an official statement, Manchester United said: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
