VIDEO: Manchester derby marred by City fans doing Munich gestures

JOE

This is sad to see.

In a week that has seen unpleasant banners and distasteful Twitter posts referencing rival clubs’ tragedies, Sunday was witness to yet more mockery of past fatal events.

The Manchester derby may have been played in the right spirit on the pitch, with honest commitment and spirited endeavour, but the stands were sadly witness to unsavoury behaviour.

A minority of Man City fans were recorded jovially spreading their arms out wide and imitating planes at the visiting United supporters, to mock the Munich Air Disaster of 1958.

The sorrowful events at Munich-Riem Airport resulted in 23 fatalities – including eight Man United players. Presumable these City fans have never heard of Frank Swift – a City legend who also lost his life that day.
